Climate and Energy Co-operation

The Danish Energy Agency has co-operated with Mexico in implementing its climate and energy policies since July 2014. Mexican and Danish ministries and institutions are co-operating closely to support Mexico’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

The Danish Energy Agency helps by sharing Danish experiences on energy system analysis and policy development, for example how to integrate wind power and biomass into the energy portfolio, how to increase energy efficiency in buildings and industry, and how to mitigate climate change. The efforts support Mexico in reaching its ambitious climate and energy goals as set out in Mexico’s Nationally Determined Contributions to the Paris Climate Agreement and in the Energy Transition Law. According to these goals, Mexico will reduce its GHG emissions by 22% unconditionally and up to 36% on conditions of eg. international support by 2030 compared to Business as Usual.

Emissions shall peak in 2026 and in 2024 35% of Mexico’s electricity production will be generated from clean energy.  The programme concludes in June 2017 and has been part of the Danish 2013 Climate Envelope’s global framework.
