The Strategic Sector Cooperation between Mexico and Denmark within the area of Food & Agriculture

The strategic cooperation within food & agro is focused on pig production and the development of safer production and strengthening food safety.

Mexico and Denmark are important food producers worldwide and both have a significant pig production. It is the policy of the Mexican government to strengthen productivity, self-sufficiency, animal disease prevention and food safety, as well as to promote job creation through the development of the national food production.

Pests and diseases pose a threat to the sanitary status, which is important for both the national production, public health and global competitiveness. Facing recent outbreaks of African Swine Fewer (ASF) in Eastern Europe and Asia and the continuous spread of the disease towards other countries, Mexico and Denmark wish to be better prepared to avoid the spread of ASF and other exotic diseases and to develop effective prevention and measures in case of an outbreak.

Furthermore, the Mexican government wishes to strengthen the entire value chain of pig production regarding surveillance, traceability, monitoring of toxic contaminants and veterinary medicine as well as improving diagnostics and updating meat control in order to enhance overall food safety and public health through reduction in foodborne illness.

The main partners of the collaboration are the Mexican Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development - SADER, The National Service for Food Safety and Quality - SENASICA and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
